6 Tips for a Jotally Sober January

Sober-ish January - A Month of Reset

January—the month of resolutions—is, for me, a time to reset and ease into the year. My goals are still germinating, and my theme or word of the year hasn’t revealed itself yet. I’ve never been one for the traditional “Dry January” because, honestly, I don’t consider alcohol a “problem” for me. But...a recent hangover got me rethinking things.

Here’s the deal—I like to say I’m more of a stoner than a drinker and it’s true. But yeah, I do drink socially, sometimes using it as a social lubricant because, surprise, I’m actually an introvert. I know—sequins, leopard print, and introvert don’t usually go together, but here we are. Still, after a particularly gnarly holiday hangover, I found myself oddly excited to give Dry January (or in my case, Sober-ish January) a shot. And the best part? I don’t even have to be totally sober when I can just be Jotally Sober—thanks, Raunch Water.

Here’s what I’m hyped about for this little Sober-ish start to the year:

  • Better sleep and waking up feeling refreshed

  • A steadier mood—less rollercoaster, more scenic cruise.

  • Extra clarity—bye, brain fog.

But for real, this is totally an experiment. I’ll check back in next month and spill the tea (or, you know, Raunch Water) on how it all went down. If you’re thinking about jumping on the Sober-ish wagon with me, I’d love to hear about your experience—share your journey with us @jotaliving and tag #JotallySober.

Oh, and because I love making life easier (and tastier), we’re offering a juicy discount on Raunch Water for the month of January to help you keep things chill without the hangover. Cheers to that!

Wishing you a Happy New Year ahead no matter how you celebrate 🪩✨

What Even Is Dry January?

Dry January was started by a British charity as a public health initiative in 2012. Now millions take part in this health challenge every year.

We humans have been using plants and fungi to change how we feel for millennia. Often, a culture organizes itself around a few chosen plants, and in the last couple hundred years, we’ve ended up in an era defined by alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine.

Dry January is an opportunity to think about which plants you’re choosing and are they serving you. We hope you find some alternatives that support you in relaxing without the hangover.

Tips for Crushing Dry January (And Actually Having Fun)

Alright, so you’re ditching the booze for a month—props to you! But let's make sure this Dry January thing doesn’t suck the fun out of your life. Whether you’re going fully dry or just easing into a “Sober-ish January,” here are some pro-level tips to keep it chill, exciting, and maybe even more fun than your usual bar hangs.

Find a Killer Mocktail Mix

Seriously, mocktails are having a glow-up. There are so many alcohol-free spirits and mixers that are anything but boring. Want to level up your alcohol-free game? Try spiking your mocktail with a shot of Raunch Water—yep, it’s hemp-derived THC and totally bar- and travel-friendly. Sneaky, tasty, and perfect for kicking back without the next-day regrets. #UpgradeYourMocktail

Plan Your Exit Strategy for Boozy Hangouts

We’ve all been there—friends invite you out, everyone’s got cocktails in hand, and you’re like, “Cool, I’ll just sip my…tap water?” Nah, don’t do this to yourself. Bring your own non-alcoholic options to parties or suggest hangouts that don’t revolve around booze.

Start a “No Hangover” Hobby

Guess what? You’re about to have more free time (and energy) since you’re not nursing a hangover ‘til noon. Take this golden opportunity to dust off your old guitar, finally learn to knit, or get into morning yoga.

Keep Your Why in Check

Listen, Dry January isn’t punishment; it’s self-care with a twist. Take five minutes and jot down your “why.” Whether it’s saving cash, prioritizing your health, or just finding out what life’s like without 2-for-1 margaritas, having a clear intention is key.

Get Your Squad On Board

Accountability is clutch. Tell your friends, tell your cat’s Instagram followers, tell anyone who’ll cheer you on. Even better, grab a buddy to go dry with you—it’s like a no-drinks pact. And hey, if you need extra pep talks, slide into our DMs (@jotaliving) for some fun inspo to keep you going strong.

Listen to Your Body (It’s Smarter Than You Think)

Spoiler alert: you might start noticing that life without alcohol feels pretty damn good. Better sleep, higher energy, no sweat from tequila regrets. Pay attention to how you feel—your body’s basically saying, “Thanks for finally listening to me!”

Dry January doesn’t have to be a grim slog through nights of boring soda water and lame FOMO. It’s your chance to explore, recharge, and maybe even find new ways to kick back and have a blast. Cheers (with whatever non-alcoholic goodness you’re sipping). You’ve got this!
